Directors of the board of the Icelandic Heart Association (IHA) and US federal regulations require the Icelandic Heart Association to have policies in place to promote objectivity in research for which public health service funding is sought (in accordance with NIH policy (see NIH GPS Section 4.1.10 Financial Conflict of Interest, 42 CFR Part 50 Subpart F)
Financial Conflict of Interest (FCOI)
IHA´s Financial Conflict of Interest Policy describes guidelines for disclosure of Significant Financial Interests and how Financial Conflicts of Interests in research, sponsored programs, and technology transfer activities at the IHA are managed.
What is a Financial Conflict of Interest?
Conflicts of interest in research are present when a Significant Financial Interest directly affects, or could appear to affect, the professional judgment of a researcher when designing, conducting, or reporting research.
What is considered a Significant Financial interest (SFI)?
An SFI is present when any payment is received by an Investigator or their Immediate Family Member.
